At Manor School we aim for an environment which enables and encourages all members of the community to reach out for excellence. For our students to gain the greatest benefit from their education it is vital that they attend regularly, and your child should be at school, on time, every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable. It is very important therefore that you make sure that your child attends regularly, and the Attendance Policy sets out how together we will achieve this.
IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT FROM SCHOOL
If your child is absent from school, please contact us as soon as possible on the first day of absence. This can be via the attendance officer on 01933 627020 or via email on .
To support student attendance can we also remind parents and carers that medical documentation is provided for all medical appointments (doctors, dentist, orthodontist etc). This can be communicated to the school using the attendance details above or via your child's form tutor.
APPLICATION FOR A LEAVE OF ABSENCE IN TERM TIME
The Department for Education has announced important changes to legislation concerning absence in term time. From the 1st of September 2013 the law gives no entitlement for parents to take their children on holiday during term time. Any application for leave can only be granted at the discretion of the Principal who must be satisfied that the circumstances are exceptional and warrant the granting of leave.
If the application for leave is not considered an exceptional circumstance and therefore is not granted, and parents remove their children from school during term time, a fixed penalty notice may be issued by the Northamptonshire Education and Inclusion Partnership Service.
PENALTY NOTICES FOR NON-SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
What happens if I receive a penalty notice?
An initial fixed penalty notice of £60 is issued to each parent for each child (so a two parent family with two children would be fined £240).

Can I appeal?
There is no statutory right of appeal once a penalty notice has been issued.
What happens if I don’t pay?
If we do not receive payment within 28 days from the issue of the penalty notice you may be prosecuted for the offence of irregular attendance and could be subject to a fine of up to £1,000 on conviction per child and / or a parenting order or a community service order and also costs.
Can I be prosecuted if I pay the penalty notice?
You cannot be prosecuted for the period of absence identified in the penalty notice. You may subsequently be prosecuted for further periods of unauthorised absence from school. Each case is considered on an individual basis.
Please note that student illness and medical appointments will, in the majority of cases, be authorised but we may require supporting evidence where appropriate.
