Curriculum Information

Our Curriculum

At Manor School, our curriculum is designed to provide every student with an ambitious, broad, balanced and culturally rich curriculum. Rooted in the core values of resilience, empathy, aspiration, curiosity, and humanity, our curriculum aims to nurture not only the academic growth of our students but also their personal development as compassionate, curious, and confident individuals.

We believe that resilience is essential in overcoming challenges and embracing opportunities for growth. We inspire the yearning to be and do better, every day. Our curriculum encourages students to persevere, learn from mistakes, and develop the self-belief and determination needed to thrive in an ever-evolving world.

Through empathy, we foster understanding and respect for others, helping students appreciate diverse perspectives and build meaningful relationships. By developing emotional intelligence, our students grow into responsible citizens who contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.

Our curriculum encourages aspiration, inspiring students to reach their highest potential, set ambitious goals, and pursue excellence in everything they do. We believe that all students should feel empowered to dream big and achieve success, both academically and personally.

We promote curiosity as a driving force behind lifelong learning. By encouraging students to ask questions, explore new ideas, and challenge themselves intellectually, we cultivate a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom and prepares students to navigate the complexities of the future.

Finally, we emphasise humanity, ensuring that students not only acquire knowledge and skills but also develop a strong sense of moral responsibility and empathy for others. Our curriculum supports students in becoming compassionate, ethical individuals who are ready to contribute meaningfully to society and make a positive impact on the world.

At Manor School, we are committed to nurturing the knowledge, skills, and character necessary for our students to succeed academically and socially, preparing them to face the challenges of tomorrow with confidence, compassion, and purpose.

Curriculum Aims

We have five core aims that form the heart of our curriculum:

1. Holistic Development

Our curriculum aims to equip students with the skills to thrive both academically and personally. It provides a strong foundation in essential subjects, along with opportunities to explore diverse fields of knowledge, all while promoting personal growth, emotional intelligence, and a strong sense of ethics.

2. Vision of the World

We want our students to leave Manor School with a broad vision of the world, empowered by the skills, knowledge, and confidence to contribute positively to society and succeed in their chosen careers.

3. Preparation for the Future

Our curriculum is designed to prepare students for both the world of work and higher education. By developing transferable skills, nurturing a love of learning, and encouraging independent thought, we give students the tools to confidently navigate their futures.

4. Cultural Capital and Life Chances

We believe in giving every student the opportunity to experience a wide range of cultural and intellectual experiences that will shape their worldviews, expand their opportunities, and increase their life chances.

5. Success for All

Our curriculum is built on the firm belief that every student can achieve success. We recognise that success means different things to different people, and we aim to provide a variety of pathways to ensure each student can pursue their vision of success, whether that’s through academic achievement, personal growth, or future career aspirations.

What we want our students to be:
1. Kind, Positive, and Supportive

We want our students to be kind and considerate, supporting one another and contributing positively to the school community. They should embody empathy, respect, and a willingness to help others.

2. Aspirational, Ambitious, and Engaged

We want our students to be ambitious, with the drive to achieve their personal and academic goals. We encourage them to embrace challenge and strive for excellence in everything they do.

3. Resilient and Creative

Students should be resilient in the face of challenges, learning from failure and embracing it as an opportunity for growth. We also encourage creativity, independent thought, and problem-solving across all areas of learning.

4. Informed, Motivated, and Knowledgeable

We want students to be informed and to make educated decisions about their futures. They should be confident, motivated learners with a broad knowledge base and the curiosity to explore new ideas.

5. Global Citizens with Cultural Awareness

Our students should be global citizens who understand and respect different cultures and worldviews. They should be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from all walks of life, embodying British values of tolerance and respect.

6. Lifelong Learners

Above all, we want our students to love learning. We aim to instil a lifelong curiosity, an openness to new ideas, and a commitment to continuous personal development.

Curriculum Design

At Manor School, we are proud to offer a curriculum that is both ambitious and inclusive, crafted with care and expertise by our subject specialist curriculum leaders. Each subject area is designed to deliver a broad, balanced, and culturally rich education, rooted in academic excellence and geared towards preparing our students for life beyond the classroom.

Our curriculum is reviewed and revised to meet the learning needs of our students, ensuring that students receive an education that reflects the latest thinking, research, and developments in each discipline. Our teachers maintain high levels of subject knowledge through regular subject-specific training, ongoing self-study, and active engagement with professional subject associations. This commitment ensures our students are taught by experts who are passionate about their fields and up to date with the latest educational advancements.

The design and delivery of our curriculum are underpinned by seven key curriculum principles, each guiding our approach to education and supporting our students' development.

1. Sustainability, Quality, and Excellence

Our curriculum prioritises high standards of learning and the sustainability of knowledge; enabling our students to know more, remember more and do more.

2. Equality of Opportunity

We ensure all students, regardless of background, have equal access to opportunities and support to succeed, tailoring teaching strategies to meet diverse needs.

3. Skills for Life

We equip students with transferable skills - communication, teamwork, and problem-solving - along with social and emotional competencies to thrive in life and work.

4. Intellectual Curiosity and a Love of Learning

We inspire curiosity and foster critical thinking, exposing students to a broad range of subjects that cultivate a passion for learning.

5. Preparation for Independence and the Future

Our curriculum prepares students for life beyond school, offering pathways that align with their aspirations, whether in further education, work, or active citizenship.

6. Cultural Awareness and Global Citizenship

We promote understanding of global issues, cultural diversity, and British values, empowering students to communicate effectively across cultures and embrace inclusivity.

7. Challenging Yet Supportive Environment

We create a safe space for students to push beyond their comfort zones, embracing failure as a learning opportunity and fostering resilience and creativity.

How can you learn more about our curriculum?

Each subject has its own page on this website.

On each page, you can find the Subject Curriculum Plan for each year group, which sets out the intended curriculum and the rationale for what subject leaders have chosen to teach and when. These documents provide a foundation for more detailed curriculum planning by setting out the knowledge and skills to be taught during a given period of time.

At Key Stage 4, our curriculum is deliberately structured to provide a strong academic foundation that equips students with the essential knowledge and skills needed for success in a wide range of post-16 courses. Whether students choose to continue studying a subject at A-Level or explore new academic pathways, the grounding they receive at GCSE supports them in making confident, informed choices and enables them to approach advanced study with confidence and capability. This approach ensures that students are not only prepared for examination success but are also intellectually ready for the academic demands of the next stage in their education.

Key Stage 5

Our subject specialist curriculum leaders have thoughtfully designed the curriculum to ensure a smooth and well-supported transition from GCSE to A-Level study. This involves a long-term, strategic approach to curriculum planning that takes into account the full seven-year educational journey from Year 7 to Year 13. By considering how knowledge, skills, and understanding develop over time, our curriculum ensures that learning is sequenced logically and coherently, building depth and complexity at each stage.
