Our Manor 12-16 September 2022

Welcome to this week's newsletter

I wrote last week about the Raunds Mayor’s Show due to take place on Saturday 17 September and how much we were looking forward to seeing some of our students, and students from other local schools, performing on stage. Unfortunately, this has been cancelled because of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the period of national mourning.

However, there are events in the coming weeks and months where we will be able to see our students showcasing their skills and talents. These dates include:

  • Christmas Market & Lights Switch on event: Sunday 27 November, 2pm to 6:30pm, Raunds Town Square
  • Mayor’s Family Christmas Carol Service: Wednesday 14 December, starts at 6pm, Raunds Methodist Church

We looking forward to seeing you there.

Many of you will know from our communications this week that this coming Monday is a bank holiday for all schools. We look forward to seeing students return back to school on Tuesday at 8:35am.

Arbor parent portal

Parents/carers are now able to use the Arbor parent portal to view your child's information. This currently includes their timetable, current attendance figures and the current REACH points awarded to them.

From Monday 19 September, alongside the above we will also use Arbor to set all homework. This means that parents/carers and students will have greater visibility and access to homework tasks set by teachers.

Over time, we will look to include further information on the Arbor portal, which will eventually be used as a source for most communication.

The simplest way to register is to sign into the parent portal - please visit https://login.arbor.sc/ and select 'Forgotten password'. You will then be sent an email containing further instructions. Once you have registered, you can download the app from Google Play or the App Store and log in with your details.

In the first instance, please contact enquiries@manor.school should you have any queries about the portal.

School photographs

Our school photographer will be in school on Tuesday 20 September and Wednesday 21 September to take individual student photographs. Every student and member of staff has a photograph taken for our school information management system. Students should come to school in full school uniform as normal on these days. Parents and carers will be provided with a proof of the photograph and details of how to order photos should they wish to purchase for themselves.

Sixth form event

On Tuesday 20 September, we are inviting parents and carers of Year 12 students into school for our 'Welcome to the Sixth Form' event. Managing the transition from Year 11 into the sixth form can sometimes provide challenges for students, and we know that the support and guidance parents/carers can offer is incredibly valuable. This event is intended to ensure you are aware of the expectations we have and the support on offer; it will also provide an opportunity to ask any questions you might have.

We would also like to extend this invitation to parents and carers of students in Year 13. There are two sessions scheduled: 4:30 to 5:30pm and 5:30 to 6:30pm. There is still time to register your place. Please follow this link. For more information, please contact Miss Holtman, Sixth Form Progress Leader.

RSC Twelfth Night performance

The Royal Shakespeare Company will be performing Twelfth Night at the Silhouette Theatre studio in Weston Favell Shopping Centre next week. You can book tickets (£5) for Friday 23 September at 6:30 pm and Saturday 24 September at 2:30 pm by clicking here. For more information about the production, click here.

Football fixture result

Our Year 10 boys football team lost their first game of the year against Malcom Arnold School 2-0. Manor had several chances against the opposition, however they could not convert them into goals. It was a good game despite only having one training session. Special mentions to Year 9 students Kallum S, Jake B and Sam F for stepping up to be part of the Year 10 team.

Representing the school - fixtures and events

We are very proud of the number of opportunities given to students to represent the school across a wide range of subject areas at fixtures and events. In order to ensure we are able to select your child for such events, we are requesting your consent just the once for this academic year.

This consent covers fixtures or events that take place at Manor School or the grounds of another school, providing the total length of the fixture or event, including travel, does not exceed 4 hours. Equally, the fixture or event must not pose any additional risk between what is expected of a usual sports fixture or school related activity.

In addition, this consent covers education or curriculum related activities that take place during the school day, inside our 'extended learning territory' as outlined in our Trips & Visits policy (see map below).

If your child is selected or invited to take part in an activity of this nature, you will receive a message from us that shares the details of the event and additional information.

It is your right to withdraw consent for individual activities, or indeed for the remainder of the year. You can do this by contacting the individual event leader or emailing enquiries@manor.school if you wish to withdraw consent for the entire year.

To give your consent, please visit your child's WisePay account. If you do not provide consent on WisePay, we may contact you individually for future events.

Sports notices

The first sports leadership programme of the year was due to be held on Monday 19 September but in light of the Bank Holiday this meeting will now take place on Wednesday 21 September after school in Room 50. Students who were part of the programme last year should attend this session. We would also like to welcome our new Year 7 leaders Jack S, Malachy Y, Rueben B, Charlie B, Jacob M, Billie L and Charlie E, as well as Kirby B from Year 8 who we hope will enjoy the sports leadership programme as much as their peers do!

As we begin hosting fixtures again, please could we remind all parents, carers and other adults that the school site is not open until 4:30pm so please do not turn up to watch a fixture or event before this time as we will not be able to let you in. This is also applicable to any students who have left the site at the end of the day. If students wish to watch a fixture or event they must stay on school site. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Extra-curricular timetable

It's been fantastic to see students participating in extra-curricular activities this week. Sport continues to be a popular choice but there has also been a good turnout to other sessions such as esports and our 'books and biscuits' reading club.

Next week's extra-curricular timetable can be found below. We will be sharing the timetable in each edition of this newsletter as new clubs may be added as we progress through the term. Should any session need to be cancelled at short notice, tutors will update students accordingly during tutor time.
