Our Manor 20-24 June 2022

Welcome to this week's newsletter

This week we closed a chapter in the lives of our Year 11 and Year 13 students before they embark on the next stage in their journey. It was an opportune moment in their leavers' assemblies at the end of the week to remind them of the why behind our Work.World.Wellness curriculum, our REACH values and our three school rules of Ready, Respectful and Responsible. All these elements, which our students have been exposed to in their time with us, have been designed to prepare them for making big transitions like this one and for life beyond school. We wish everyone well in their future next destination!

Last week I mentioned the Wind in the Willows performances as part of the Whole Child Project working alongside the other Nene Education Trust schools. I have heard fantastic reviews and would like to congratulate all involved, especially our very gifted students who represented themselves, their family, and the school exceptionally well. I am very excited to see the performance for myself at the Friday evening showing.

Enjoy the weekend when it arrives!

Arbor parent portal

The Arbor parent portal and app will be launched shortly. There is some data work taking place in the background to make this ready but we hope to launch it before the end of the school year. This will allow parents and carers to access live up-to-date REACH point allocation and totals, behaviour notifications and other school information. Keep an eye on future newsletters for more information.

Spanish theatre performance

This week Onatti Theatre Group performed a show in Spanish for our Year 8 Spanish students. It was a fantastic show where students practiced their Spanish skills whilst learning some new vocabulary. Thank you to all students who participated and we hope that you enjoyed the show!

Summer concert

We are pleased to announce that we will be having a summer music concert on Monday 4 July from 6pm. The concert will showcase our students' musical talents, with performances from a range of musical styles and as soloists or within ensembles.

If you would like to purchase tickets for the event, you can do so via the link below.

Term 6 extra-curricular clubs

We have a large variety of clubs on offer to students this term, and this week we're sharing what some of them have been up to.

There was a good turnout to KS3 critical thinking club on Monday lunchtime, where students were tasked with solving a series of fiendish brainteasers based on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Students also made the most of our after-school provision by working on personal projects in art club and discovering authors' tips in Creative Writing.

Students were in fine voice on Tuesday lunchtime, taking to the music practice rooms for singing club. There was then the chance to take part in bat and ball sports at the rounders and softball after-school clubs.

There were even more opportunities to get active on Wednesday, with students practicing their long jump skills after school in athletics club.

On Thursday, Year 10 and 12 students tackled advanced trigonometry problems in Mr Harris' further maths session after school. Meanwhile, Mr Mitchell-Bunce led his ever-popular KS3 basketball club in the sports hall.

Our final clubs visit of the week was to Culture and Ethics on Friday lunchtime. The session began with some card games before students moved on to discussing 'big' questions on topics such as belief and morality, all lead by volunteers from Souster Youth.

The above are just a small selection of the clubs on offer each week. A full timetable of all the clubs on offer this term can be found below. Please note however that there will be no clubs after school on Monday 27 June due to whole staff training, and PE clubs will also be cancelled on Tuesday 28 June due to most PE staff being out on a trip.

Playmates Fun Day

Last year was Playmates 30th anniversary, however due to restrictions at the time they were unable to celebrate the achievement. As it is an important milestone that deserves be celebrated, the childcare providers are holding an anniversary event this year.

Their family fun day will be taking place on 2 July and is open to everyone, especially former pupils and families of Playmates. As a thank you to all the families that have supported them over the years, they are not charging for the food, refreshments, bouncy castle or games.
