Our Manor 23-27 May 2022

Welcome to this week's newsletter

Wow! In the blink of an eye another half term passes us by. Next term promises to be an action-packed and busy term. Transition programmes for students moving on to the next stage in the journey will be in full swing, not least Year 6 into 7. We also have REACH Fest coming up to celebrate the achievements of so many, and there will be a host of other events like Sports Day and the Year 11 and 13 proms.

Our commitment to mental health and wellbeing has continued in this last half term with the introduction of Northampton Town Football Club and their dedicated mentors who are supporting our community. Our work with Think for the Future has gone from strength to strength and we continue to work alongside the Mental Health Support Team to deliver support and guidance to young people in our school. We have benefited from the work of our own School Counsellor, Mental Health First Aiders and pastoral team as well as additional ongoing support from We Mind & Kelly Matters. Amy Bradshaw continues to work with staff and students to offer support where it is needed and also where it is planned into our curriculum. In the coming weeks we will be giving students the opportunity to engage with us about their own mental health and wellbeing so that we can signpost and organise support where it is needed. We will be engaging with parents/carers to also give their view on their child/children’s mental health and wellbeing so please look out for that in your communications from school.

For those celebrating the Jubilee celebrations, enjoy the festivities in the coming days. I do hope you all have the opportunity to spend time with your loved ones over the bank holiday and half term break.

Lee Towers, Head of School

Meet the Head

We continue to offer parents/carers and members of the community the opportunity to meet the Head of School. This is an opportunity for people to share with us their thoughts and feelings about the school and wider community, whether they be positive or recommendations on how we can be better.

To make an appointment please contact Sandra Rodway, PA to the Head of School, at srodway@manor.school.

Thank you to those of you who we have seen and spoken to in recent weeks.

Inclusion Strategy

We are continuing to refine our Inclusion Strategy to make sure that we are supporting students to make the best choices and be Ready, Respectful and Responsible throughout their time with us, demonstrating our school REACH values.

As part of these refinements, from Monday 6 June all detentions will be replaced with lunchtime detentions. Students who are set a detention will report to Room 8 at the beginning of lunchtime. Students are encouraged to bring packed lunch, or they will be able to order a grab bag from our canteen to be delivered to the detention room. Parents/carers will continue to be notified about detentions. Detentions continue to be set for the next available detention slot, giving parents and carers time to discuss reasons with their children. The reasons a detention may be set remain the same.

Automatic detentions are set for:

  • Missing blazers (except on non-blazer day) or wearing headphones or hoodies
  • Mobile phone use during lessons or tutor time
  • Inappropriate physical contact
  • Removals from lessons
  • Repeated low-level behaviour

We are using the next term as an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between home and school so form tutors and the pastoral team will be making more contact with parents and carers to identify and resolve solutions to avoid repeat behaviour.

Mrs Johnson will be sharing news shortly about REACH Fest 2022 and our strategies to also ensure we are raising the profile of REACH and positive rewards.

Finally, we are working to be ready for our Arbor platform to share details of behaviour, rewards and attendance more readily with parents/carers.

Jubilee Bake Sale

We had a fantastic turnout for our Jubilee Bake Sale on Friday 27 May. Students and staff flocked to the stand at break and lunch to buy sweet treats, with all the money going towards funding our Cambodia expedition. In total over £100 was raised - thank you to everyone who bought or donated items.

Term 6 extra-curricular clubs

Following feedback received from our recent student surveys, we can now share our extra-curricular clubs timetable for term 6. We are proud to be able to offer a greater diversity of activities for students to participate in at break and after school, with even more new clubs planned for September. We hope to see as many of our students participating in at least one extra-curricular activity as possible.

Year 11 update and exam timetable

After the half term break, students will be in one of the following sessions:

  • Booster session
  • Power session
  • Formal examination
  • Lessons where the assessment for that course has not yet been completed

At all other times, students can sign in and out of school via main reception, providing we have consent from their parent or carer. Any students who we do not have consent for will be able to study independently in the LRC.
