Our Manor 16-20 May 2022

Welcome to this week's newsletter

We have been proud of our Year 11 and 13 students this week as they have begun the start of their summer exam season, as well as all students who have been completing modular examinations for BTEC and vocational qualifications.

It has also been another week of excellent enrichment as clubs have continued, our Year 10 Handball students have been successful in competition, and we saw staff take part in our House "I'm a Teacher" competition this week. More on all of this later in the newsletter.

The May half-term break begins on Monday 30 May and gives students, staff, and families some time together, including the time gained from the bank holidays at the end of the week. We will be using this event as an opportunity to explore British values of democracy, rule of law, liberty, respect, and tolerance throughout tutor times over the coming days.

Finally, we look forward to meeting parents and carers of students in Year 7 (virtually) on Thursday for their Consultation Evening.

Have a restful weekend.

Lee Towers, Head of School

Becoming unwell during the school day

To support our students most appropriately, if your child becomes unwell during the school day we ask them to do the following.

During lessons

  1. Inform the teacher, who will then inform student services.
  2. Pastoral staff will assist the class teacher in supporting the student and, if necessary, inform home.

During break/lunch

  1. Visit student services.
  2. Pastoral staff will support the student and, if necessary, inform home.

If you receive a phone call or message from your child expressing that they feel unwell, please encourage them to follow the above processes.

Mental health support

We are now linked with an NHS Mental Health Support Team - the video below explains how they work with schools in our area.

As part of the audit process the team would like to gather your opinions too. Click on the link below to complete their short questionnaire.

Enrichment survey

Following on from last week's survey on our extra-curricular provision, we would like students to complete a very short additional survey so that we can collect information related to attendance at clubs both within and outside of school.

Students from all year groups can complete the survey via the following link.

Handball competition

Our Year 10 handball team attended the regional finals competition on Wednesday 18 May at Cambridge University Sports Centre. We are delighted that they were awarded bronze, a result of their excellent effort and good team work. We were also particularly proud to hear that one of the sports centre staff commented on how Manor were the most polite and well-behaved of the teams. Congratulations to those involved.

I'm a Teacher... Get Me Out of Here!

We held a special house competition on Friday lunchtime where three members of staff took part in a series of disgusting eating trials to win points for their house. Mrs Johnson represented Acer, Mr Kellingray represented Betula, and Mrs Nattrass represented Quercus.

After a gruesome 3-course meal followed by an equally vile drink, Mr Kellingray was the clear winner, with Mrs Johnson narrowly taking second place ahead of Mrs Nattrass.

As well as the points earned by the staff going towards their houses, an additional 500 house points were awarded to Betula for having the most students in the audience.

Year 7 Consultation Evening

Our Year 7 Consultation Evening is being held virtually on Thursday 26 May, 4-8pm.

The deadline for parents/carers to book appointments is Tuesday 24 May at 4pm, as the booking system will then be closed.

Jubilee Bake Sale

Our Cambodia expedition team are holding a Jubilee Bake Sale on Friday 27 May at break and lunch time on the quad. Students should bring cash to school with them in order to purchase a treat. The money raised will go towards funding the Cambodia expedition.
