Our Manor 13-17 December 2021

Welcome to this week's newsletter

As we finish this term, we want to say thank you to everyone for your support over the last seven weeks. We truly appreciate your co-operation in what has been another challenging period of time.

As a school, we continue to face the challenges of COVID. Please remember to carry out lateral flow tests twice a week, as well as complete the consent form for student testing when we return in the New Year.

We are both looking forward to spending some quality time with our families, and hope you all have a fantastic Christmas break.

Glenn Martin and Lee Towers, Co-Principals

Christmas Concert

Our Christmas Concert was held on Thursday 9 December and was a spectacular evening of festive entertainment. You can read reviews of the event from two of our Performing Arts journalists by clicking the links below.

Christmas hamper appeal

Representatives from Raunds Food Bank collected dozens of boxes on Wednesday 15 December as part of this year's hamper appeal organised by Year 10 CoPE students.

Richard and Karen Goodman commented "Thank you so much to everyone at Manor School for your generosity. It is amazing to see such a large amount of donated items. It will go a long way and is much appreciated."

Thank you to everyone who donated to the cause and to tutor groups for decorating the boxes.

Indoor athletics competition

Manor School hosted the district round of the SSP Year 7 Sports Hall Athletics Competition on Thursday 16 December.

Both of Manor's teams have got through to the next round and will now face other teams from across the county. Congratulations!

Alumni career talk

On Friday 17 December we welcomed back former Manor School student Ashleigh O'Donoghue who gave a careers talk on weddings, marketing and business management. Ashleigh, now the operations and marketing manager of a company owning two award-winning wedding venues, spoke to students from Years 10-13 about her career journey so far.

If you are a former Manor student and would be interested in giving a careers talk to current students, we'd love to hear from you. Please complete the form below or alternatively email lsmedley@manor.school.

Term 3 Consultation Evenings

Please take note of the following dates for Consultation Evenings taking place next term:

  • Thursday 20 January: Year 10
  • Thursday 10 February: Year 9

Full details will be shared in the new year.

External examinations

There are a number of external examinations being held in January for students in Years 11-13 who are taking particular courses. You can download the timetable below.

Manor Maths Challenges

Cracker jokes and snowflake puzzles await in the final edition of Mrs Radd's maths blog for this year.

Online safety

Christmas is a time where children could be exposed to additional periods of screen time, possess new devices as presents, communicate more through online methods and take part in further gaming opportunities with friends, all of which can lead to prolonged time unsupervised whilst using these online platforms and devices. The NSPCC website has some useful resources, tips and guides to help you to support your child online and this information could easily spark discussion. Why not take a look over the Christmas break.

House Christmas Quiz

Tutor groups participated in a Christmas Quiz on Friday afternoon, with correct answers going towards house point totals.

The results are in, and we can now reveal the winners...

Term 3 PE extra-curricular clubs

To participate in the indoor football before school, students need to be at school for 8am and enter site via the park street gate; the gate gets locked at 8am and then the main school gates won’t be opened until the normal time of 8:20am.

Attendance at one of our clubs will earn students ‘enrichment hours’ and a Curiosity REACH point for ‘taking advantage of opportunities given to you’.
