Our Manor 6-10 December 2021

Welcome to this week's newsletter

It has been fantastic to see our students performing at the Mayor's Carol Service, as well as our own Christmas Concert, this week. It's also been another busy week of sports fixtures. We want to thank all members of staff who have worked tirelessly to make these events happen.

A special thank you also goes to colleagues who have gone above and beyond covering lessons due to staff absence with COVID or for other reasons. Without their support, we would have had to close the school to certain year groups.

Please may we remind you to provide consent for your child/children for the upcoming flu vaccinations and COVID testing - more details can be found below.

Have a great weekend.

January start dates and student testing

All parents/carers have been emailed this week regarding staggered start dates and details of student testing.

We would request that all families complete the testing consent form. If you do not wish to give your consent, you must complete the form to ensure your child/children does not get tested. Please click on this link to complete the form.

Students will return to school on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 4 January, 8:35am: Years 7, 11, 12 and 13
  • Wednesday 5 January, 8:35am: Years 8, 9 and 10

Flu vaccination

Year 7-11 parents/carers have recently been emailed information regarding an upcoming opportunity for students to receive their flu vaccination at school. The letter (which can also be downloaded below) contains a link to the consent form, which must be completed by 4 January. The vaccinations will then take place on 14 and 21 January.

School ties

Manor School ties can now be purchased via Wisepay for £6.50 and can be collected from main reception between 9am and 3pm. Ties will not be released to students until payment has been made.

Please be aware that old ties are no longer classed as Manor School uniform.

Tassomai

We have had a fantastic uptake of Tassomai among our students over the last three weeks, but we would like to see all of our students using this great app to support their learning. Here is a reminder of how to sign up and what to do if there is a problem:

  • Visit app.tassomai.com/signup
  • Enter the school’s unique code: 97M8KMP8
  • Enter your details (use school email)
  • Choose correct classes from the drop-down menu. For Years 10 and 11 there are options for higher and foundation – pick [H] if unsure.

If there are problems logging on, your child can reset their own password by clicking on the ‘Forgot your password?’ button. If there are any other problems logging in, please email science@manor.school

Congratulations to Cody S and Kacper S in Year 10 and Elisa D in Year 11 who are the top three students for the most questions attempted in the past week.

Year 12 Student Executive

We believe in giving young people a voice in helping to shape their school journey. The Sixth Form Student Executive team lead our Student Parliament made up of representatives from across the school in three areas - Work, World, and Wellness. They identify areas to be developed, then set targets which will help improve our school community. The Student Executive team meet with the Senior Leadership Team to feedback and discuss how to improve the school based on the student voice.

We are delighted to announce that the following Year 12 students have been appointed to represent the student body.

  • James D
  • Dane PD
  • Madeline C
  • Hannah I
  • Kiera D
  • Rebecca G
  • Thomas T
  • James B
  • Freddie J
  • Samantha J

Manor Maths Challenges

There's a trio of festive puzzles to wrap your head around in this week's blog, plus the obligatory cracker joke.

Christmas Jumper Day

It was fantastic to see students and staff donating money to wear a festive jumper on Friday 10 December for Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day. So far we have raised £101 via our online fundraising page, with cash donations still be added. Thank you to everyone who donated.

Free medical webinar

Doctors Live are hosting a free medical webinar titled Christmas in the Emergency Department on Wednesday 22 December at 5pm. In the session they will run through a few medical cases coming to an A&E department in Winter. Attendees will also learn how doctors assess and treat patients through interactive scenarios. The session is delivered by fully qualified medical doctors and all are welcome.

You can register for the webinar via the following link.

PE notices

Once again I would like to politely remind everyone that students are responsible for their own belongings in and around PE and the changing rooms. We do not take in anything valuable that students may have brought into school, and we are not responsible for ensuring students have remembered to collect all their belongings at the end of each lesson or club. Where items of clothing etc. are named, we will do our very best to get these items back to the students, but ultimately students must take responsibility for their own equipment at all times. Thank you for your continued support in this matter.

Thank you to all students, parents, carers and additional adults and staff that have allowed us to maintain a great extra-curricular programme in PE, and fulfil a range of fixtures in various competitions. We would also like to thank you especially for your understanding and patience where events have been cancelled or moved last minute; we certainly do not want this to happen but with the situation as it is at the moment, we have to acknowledge that these things may happen. We hope that when we return in January that everyone will be ready and raring to go once again, where hopefully we can also look forward to some warmer weather as we progress into the year.
