Our Manor 21-25 June 2021

Message from the Vice Principal

National Thank a Teacher Day

National Thank a Teacher Day was on Wednesday this week. I would therefore like to take the opportunity to reflect on the momentous efforts of the teachers, leaders and associate staff in our organisation. They all work tirelessly and relentlessly to ensure that all of our students are getting the very best deal each and every day. Working in schools this academic year has been unlike any other, and we are hopeful it will be unlike any other in the future. It has certainly presented a number of significant challenges, which has meant that colleagues have had to work even harder than they already do. Sometimes, something as simple as saying thank you can make a world of difference in someone’s life. On behalf of Nene Education Trust, I would like to extend my thanks to every single of the colleagues working in our organisation. Sixth form induction

Today has seen the final day of our sixth form induction programme. It has been a real pleasure to see many of our Year 11 students returning as prospective Year 12 students. Seeing them in a different context has really shone a light on how far they have travelled during their time with us. It genuinely has been one of those proud moments that I am sure many of us have experienced as parents/carers. Mr Carter has provided us with further insights into the programme in his piece written below.

Finally…

We are currently finalising our plans for next academic year, namely the start of term. We remain hopeful of a ‘normal’ start to the year and getting back to something that resembles a genuine secondary school where students can use the canteen and other spaces freely. We are conscious that Year 7 have not had a real secondary school experience and we are considering how best to prepare them for this in their final few weeks whilst also maintaining the pods in line with our risk assessments. We will be writing to you shortly to with all of the arrangements and information.

Have a lovely weekend!

Lee Towers, Vice Principal

Sixth form induction

Between 14-24 June, Year 11 students returned to the sixth form to take part in a post-16 induction. Students were able to attend the lessons they are intending on studying and experience the expert level 3 teaching that is offered at Manor School. For many, it also provided a taste of the additional privileges that studying in the sixth form brings.

I am extremely impressed with the mature attitudes and purposeful work ethic displayed over the two-week period.

Students have been set a summer transition task for each of their Year 12 subjects so they can hit the ground running in September.

We are still accepting applications, so if your son/daughter is considering post-16 study and hasn't yet applied, please contact me on dcarter@manor.school

Year 11

Friday 25 June marks the final day of compulsory education for our Year 11 students. We are incredibly proud of the maturity that this cohort has shown in what has been two challenging years. We are pleased that the Year 11 Festival is still set to go ahead on Friday 2 July - Mr Brown will write to you early next week with the details.

We will be writing to parents/carers of Year 11 and Year 13 students seperately next week with the next stage of the centre assessed grades process.

School transport

A letter has been sent directly to the parents/carers of students using routes 1 and 4. Please check your email inboxes for this letter and take a note of the important information within.

House competition

The final House competition of the year, and it's a quiz on a variety of events from 2020-21. Students can enter the quiz by completing the form linked below (they will need to be signed into their school email account).

Football challenges

To celebrate the start of the Euro Football tournament, we have signed up to be part of a national initiative called the ‘Monster Kickabout’ where it is all about celebrating football.

Students will be participating in some challenges during their PE lessons next week, but here are two for them to have a go at in their own time: can they design a mascot or design a football kit, or perhaps both? Students should send their efforts to their PE teacher, or follow the instructions to submit themselves.

Schools that have the most entries will be entered into a draw where they could have the opportunity to take students to train at St. George's Park, so we'd love for as many students as possible to get designing.

Manor Maths Challenges

This week's challenges have come from the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust, with questions from three different age groups.

Applying for medical school webinar

Medical Projects are running a free online event for students who are just starting to think about applying to medical school. This is primarily aimed at current Year 11 students who will be starting A levels (or equivalent) in September 2021. They will have doctors and current medical students covering the application timeline, work experience, entrance exams and everything students need to hit the ground running in September.

The event is taking place on Saturday 21 August, is completely free, and is booked on a first-come first-served basis. Students can register for the event via the following link.

Football program for girls

Elite Football Coaching are offering the opportunity for girls to stay active while learning the game of football through the new Girls Unite program in association with The FA and England Football.

The program is open to girls aged 12-14 who are looking to begin their footballing journey or continue on their development pathway. Girls are invited to come along to have fun, learn new skills and make friends. The first session is free, then £3 per session after that.
