December round-up from the Principal

Christmas Cheer

Celebration was the order of the day on 14 December which was a very busy Friday at Manor School! Firstly, it was mufti Christmas Jumper Day with funds raised in aid of Save the Children. It was great to see so much Christmas cheer but I must admit some of the jumpers were attracting the attention of the fashion police!

Last Friday also saw the catering team produce a superb Christmas dinner in the canteen. The Senior Leadership Team donned their aprons to help serve and wait on the students and staff. The consensus was that the food was fantastic and I’d like to thank Alan and the catering team for all their efforts in producing such a great meal.

At this point we must make a special mention of Eve Vaughan, who retires from the catering team this Christmas after 29 years at Manor School. This achievement and massive contribution will not be forgotten and we thank Eve for her stunning service.

Fantastic Musical Performances

The Christmas Concert once again provided a superb window for the talents of our students. I am delighted that the development of music continues to progress, with the Manor School orchestra resurrected for the first time since the early 2000s. Whilst their performance was wonderful, it was also impressive to see the range of musical styles and instruments on display. Outstanding performances from both groups and individual students across all year groups is testament to the music department, supported so well by NMPAT peripatetic teachers. I’d like to thank all of them as well as Cllr Richard Levell, Mayor of Raunds, who attended alongside, parents, members of the community, Governors and Trustees from Nene Education Trust.

Sixth Form Open Evening and Mock Results

The mock examination period is complete and we have all been impressed by the mature and committed way the students in Year 11 and the Sixth Form have approached their revision and studies. The teaching staff are busily marking these ready for the results assembly on Monday 7 January 2019. This is followed by our Sixth Form Open Evening on Tuesday 8 January where we welcome our current and external Year 11 students to visit us and see how we can facilitate their future studies.

Summer 2019 Exam Contingency Date

Each year the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) sets a national contingency date for all A Level, GCSE and BTEC examinations in case any have to be rescheduled. This year the date is 26 June 2019 and all Year 11 and Year 13 students need to ensure that they are available for this date in case any of their exams are reallocated to this date.

Merry Christmas and End & Beginning of Term Arrangements

The last day of term is Wednesday 19 December 2018 with school finishing, as usual, at 3:15pm. School reopens for students on Thursday 3 January 2019.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I look forward to working with you all in 2019.
