KEY STAGE 4 RELIGIOUS STUDIES

GCSE Religious Studies offers students an opportunity for the thematic study of religion and religious responses to fundamental questions of life. This specification is suitable for students of any religious persuasion, or those with no religious beliefs at all. It encourages students to develop their interest and enthusiasm for the study of religion and the relationship between religion and the wider world, developing their knowledge, skills and understanding of religion by exploring the impact of beliefs, teachings, practices, ways of life and forms of expressing meaning. They will learn to express their personal responses and informed insights on fundamental questions about identity, belonging, meaning, purpose, truth, values and commitments.

Course content

Component 1:

  • 1 hour 45 written exam
  • Beliefs, teachings and practices of two religions: Christianity and Islam

Component 2:

  • 1 hour 45 written exam
  • Four religious, philosophical and ethical studies themes: Religion and Families; Religion and Life, Religion, crime and punishment and Religion, human rights and social justice.
